Summary

There are a lot of options out there when it comes to portable GPS for your car. But how do you find the best option? There are just so many to pick from.

Well we've compared everything that's available right now, and here are our top picks.

If you are on a budget, we recommend the Garmin nüvi 40LM. This is your basic GPS system, it has a pretty small screen(4.3 inches), but it'll get you to your destination and best of all it also comes with lifetime maps, which means you can use it forever.

If you can spend a bit more, we recommend upgrading to the Garmin nüvi 2797LMT. This system will upgrade you to a 7 inch screen, add a split screen that will show you the junction so you never take the wrong exit, and will also add Traffic information, so you'll always be able to avoid traffic jams.

And if you want to go all out and money is no object, we recommend the Garmin nüvi 2798LMT...this is the top of the line model. It's similar to the 2797LMT model, but it also adds an integrated wireless backup camera.

Value

When it comes to GPS systems, the key factor is accuracy and making sure that the system can get you to your destination. This is where the 40LM comes, it's a no thrills system that will do everything you need, which makes it perfect for the occassional traveler. If you travel for work, or you are planning a long trip...then it's worth ugprading to the 2797LMT...the extra features are a must have for a frequent traveller.

The Good
All of these models will get you where you need to go, and with lifetime map updates you'll never take a wrong turn...so you won't have to worry about driving into a lake.
The Bad
With the 7 inch unit, some people find it too big.
